An Experienced,
UNFLAPPABLE
Storyteller.
I have been a professional writer, editor, content strategist, and creative leader for 20 years. That’s two decades of learning, adapting, making mistakes, discovering new passions, and mentoring young creatives as they build careers for themselves. (I’m trying really hard not to sound old here.)
As the Head of Content for Monotype, I lead a team of writers and content designers responsible for most of the words Monotype publishes, plus a host of other creative work. My experience gives me a perspective that helps me guide these (incredible) people through the ebbs and flows that all teams encounter. Any team I lead can count on me to listen closely to their hopes and concerns and respond with honest, compassionate, actionable feedback. And humor - always humor.
I’ve taken on every conceivable role in the content world - fact-checker, copyeditor, long-form writer, B2C copywriter, B2B copywriter, strategist, and, most recently, as the team lead at Monotype. (Trying not to sound old again.)
So what? So, you can trust that I’m comfortable handling any project and leading any initiative. Here are a few examples:
Customer education.
Like most companies, our primary goal is to educate our readers toward a purchasing decision. Most of our customers have little knowledge about fonts, and even less comfort with the complexities of licensing, copyright, and usage best practices. My team has developed ebooks, webinars, videos, podcasts, and written content explaining this rather arcane corner of the design world. (See here for a sampling.) This content forms the foundation of a global demand gen program that drove $60M in bookings in 2024. I’m particularly fond of the video to the right, which unpacks some important topics for our customers.
Creative Characters podcast.
I started Monotype’s podcast in 2021. Now on its fifth season and, depending on when you’re reading this, with nearly or over 100 episodes in the archive, Creative Characters has evolved into an award-winning production and hosted numerous design legends, up-and-coming creatives, and brand leaders from around the world. I have personally hosted about a dozen episodes, including interviews with some of my design and creative idols. Here’s my favorite
Adobe Max.
Monotype is one of the biggest sponsors of Adobe's annual design conference. Each year, we have one of the largest booth footprints at the show, and the booth's theme connects to our speaking session, which is also among the largest non-Adobe sessions at the conference. My team and I are involved in every aspect of this program, from the speakers' presentation to the booth experience to the pre- and post-event marketing communications.
This highlight reel to the left provides a glimpse into our 2024 booth. We also record apodcast episode at the show every year, in which we interview conference speakers, visitors to our booth, and our own experts.
Type Trends.
Each year, Monotype publishes a trends report that explores major shifts in design thinking and celebrates standout projects from the previous 12 months. I've had the privilege of working on all of them, initially as the primary writer and lately in a more directional, editorial, and strategic role.
Our trends report is always the centerpiece of a major multi-channel campaign that includes a webinar, podcast episodes, social content, PR, and paid media. My team and I are responsible for most of this content.
Our latest edition is subtitled Re:Vision and seeks to pivot away from hindsight and curation and toward the future. The report is built around six themes, each of which will have its own launch throughout the year. The first, Sound & Vision, is out now. I wrote the central essay and provided creative copy direction throughout.
Helvetica Now.
Monotype redrew one of the most influential typefaces of all time - Helvetica - modernizing it for the digital age and adding new styles, details, and surprises. I was the primary writer for all things Helvetica Now, including the script for our award-winning video on the left, which I scripted. This article, written to accompany the launch, remains one of my favorites.

I operate a screenprinting studio outside work I call Harsh Realm Printing Company. After collecting screenprints for some time (mostly gig posters) and wishing I knew how to screenprint, I thought to myself ... maybe go and learn how? So I did. Thank you, MassArt. You can see more on my website and Instagram.
I am passionate about design, typography, and spend a lot of time watching my teenager play baseball.
